2009 -2013 ZR1 MRC Shock Calibration Upgrades
The MRC switch on the center console of your 6th generation Corvette is labeled with 2 modes:
Tour and Sport (Tour/Sport)
For 2009 to 2013 production, which is in your car right now, the Sport mode is a racetrack mode. The amount of damping required for the racetrack is on the order of 500% more that required for a true Sport mode.
Also, it is important to note that performance traction management will not be affected at all by these new calibrations.
How will the new calibration enhance your driving experience?
The explanation for each of the modes and how they will enhance your driving experience are below followed by the options available for the calibrations in each of the tour and sport modes.
We will be offering a New Tour mode, a New Sport mode, and a New Super Sport mode.
Also, for those of you who frequently track your car and like the current the current Track calibration, there will be a 2nd New Tour mode (Tour 2) that will be paired with the current track mode
New Tour
- If you currently brace yourself when you are about to drive over a rough road or a road with large bumps, that will no longer be required.
- With the new tour mode, the car will be much softer over bumps, large or small.
- You will feel like the body structure has been enhanced
- The body motions at all speeds will be flatter, smoother, and much more fluid.
- In the parking lot and low speed (25mph and less) you will no longer experience abrupt pokes. The car will be significantly smoother.
- You will feel better vehicle response to your steering.
- The car will feel much more precise
- Cornering is flatter but still exhibits a touring feel
New Sport
- There is a strong possibility you never spend much time in your current Sport mode because of how rough the car rides.
- We can assure you that will no longer be the case.
- When you encounter a twisty road, you will not hesitate to turn the switch to Sport
- The new Sport mode is a “True” Sport mode. This mode was developed using the exact same philosophy as the C7 Sport mode.
- Even though the New Sport Mode has significantly more body control;
- The car will be much softer over bumps, large or small.
- The isolation over bumps and rough roads will be significantly better than it was in your current production Tour mode.
- You will feel like the body structure has been enhanced
- The body motions at all speeds will be flatter, smoother, and much more fluid. But it is still has the Sport character.
- You will feel significantly better vehicle response to your steering.
- The car will feel much more precise
- Cornering is flatter. You will feel one with the car.
- Like the New Tour Mode, in the parking lot and low speed (25mph and less) you will no longer experience abrupt pokes. The car will be significantly smoother.
New Super Sport
- Super Sport is for owners who like very aggressive body motion control, and autocross the car.
- Several owners have driven on the racetrack in the New Super Sport mode with great success.
- Super Sport has the same attributes as Sport except there is a 30% increase in overall damping.
- The body motion control is more tied down over Sport, yet still balanced compression to rebound.
- The impacts will be firmer than the new Sport mode, but they are better than the original production Sport calibration and similar to the original production Tour mode.
- Steering response will be improved
New Tour 2/current Sport (Track) For owners that track the car regularly.
- Unlike the C7 where each mode has its own set of algorithms, the C6 has algorithms that are shared between the 2 modes. To leave the current Track calibration transparent, no modifications were made to these shared algorithms.
- Therefore, the New Tour 2 will incorporate the shared algorithms that are currently used in the current Sport (Track) mode.
- The Tour 2 calibration will perform much better than the current production Tour mode that is in your car, but not as quite as well as New Tour mode.
On your Magnetic Ride Selection Switch,
you can choose one of the following calibrations:
The new calibration indicated in Tour/ The new calibration indicated Sport

With the exchange program, Jim will program a module and ship it to you. You can install the module yourself, or if you have a personal mechanic, have them install it for you. The installation process is not that difficult, and takes a little over an hour for a person who has moderate mechanical capabilities. There is a $400 core charge that is 100% refundable when you ship your original module back to Jim within 2 weeks of the date you receive the new module (unless other arrangements have been made).
.
Jim has constructed a YouTube video on the entire installation process. The link to that is: click here
Jim will also email you detailed written instructions.
Option 3 – Direct programming during one of our cross-country programming trips
$450.00
Periodically throughout the year (1 or 2 times), Jim and Terri will embark on a trip to program cars. These trips are determined by the highest volume of cars in any given location. When on these trips, he can program your car directly through the OBD2 port. The OBD2 port is located right under your steering wheel. The programming takes about five minutes.
Deviations from the specified route – $85/hour.
Option 4 – Installation of the magnetic ride control module through one of our installers
$475.00
We have several installers throughout the country to install a preprogrammed Magnetic Ride Control module into your car. The process to have the module installed is:
1) You can determine the calibration you would like. If you are not sure which calibration suits your needs, when you contact Jim in step 2, he will assist you.
2) Contact Jim through the contact page
3) Jim will program a module in ship it to the installer
4) The installer will then contact you to arrange an appointment for them to install the module into your car.
Please note, we are always seeking new installers. If you live in a major metropolitan area (not listed below) and know of a company you would like to recommend as part of our network, please contact Jim at jim@jimmero.com. TESTIMONIALS
Last year I purchased a C6 Grand Sport convertible. I bought the car in Texas and drove it back to Michigan. In the fall of 2018, Jim asked if he could upgrade my car to get my thoughts. The transformation is unbelievable! The pleasure of driving the car in either tour or sport can’t be understated. On my drive back from Texas I never put it in sport. Now I do almost all my driving in sport. If I just want a nice cruising car, tour is perfect. In both tour and sport, the car just glides over the bumps that used to beat me up bad. Also, I noticed how much better the steering is, which surprised me. Now I can’t imagine driving the car without the new programs. After a total of 10 hours of seat time. Â In both tour and sport. Mix of freeway 55-90mph with hours rural backroad and small-town slow driving. I like this new cal so much. Both tour and sport absorb the bumps very very nicely and are still stable and composed. Â Everyone will notice a considerable difference. Read More Testimonials ->
Jim come to my house to put the calibration in my 2010 ZR1. When I bought the car, I had to drive it back from Texas to Michigan. 18 hours on the road was a bit of a headache. The car was a blast except for hitting potholes, railroad tracks, and impacts in general. Since the calibration, my car drives and handles 100x better. The impacts seem to be non-existent. Going over railroad tracks are a breeze and the sport mode is a true sport mode now. I’m amazed every time I take out my car. Love every bit of my new calibration. Read More Testimonials ->
The ride and handling for both modes is a dramatic improvement. As soon as I left Jim’s house in tour mode, I instantly felt a more “modern” feel to the car. Very comfortable now and yet more the handling is more responsive. I do not feel the hard rebound over larger bumps. It doesn’t pound my dash when I go over railroad tracks like it used to. I feel that there is more steering response at lower speeds and of course at high speeds.
When I put it into sport mode, I feel a good difference. Now I feel a nice transition between tour to sport. Before the upgrade, I never put it in sport unless I was showing my friends how harsh it was. I am driving it in sport mode more often now. The ride is so much better as well as the cornering. I want to say it feels like a new stab bars were installed. It’s that much more balanced through the corners. Read More Testimonials ->
Just wanted to let you know how happy I am with the driving improvement. Drove over 250 miles yesterday. I am no expert but would say the car feels much more stable, planted, kind of hard to describe but driving over rough pavement sections has a sense that the suspension is working much more refined. These are really nice cars and your program just adds to the experience. Read More Testimonials ->
On a regular basis, I’m on roads with rough, heavily-worn asphalt, pot holes, sections of cracked and broken-up pavement and fragmented road edges. For around-town driving, I have MR set in the “Tour” mode and with Jim’s MR cal the car gets over all those crappy road surfaces with a bit more comfortable ride. On roads which are in better condition, but with bumps and heaves, the ride seems more controlled.
When hammering my ZO6 through the twisties in the mountains near my home–State Route 33 from Oaji, California over to where joins with SR166 is a favorite of mine–I put MR in “Sport” mode. With the Mero-calibrated “Sport”, when driving over high-frequency, low-amplitude chatter bumps, ripples, cracked pavement and stuff like that, I don’t feel those disturbances quite as much. Also, Sport, with a Mero MR cal, seems more appropriately-damped in that kind of driving than did Sport with the stock MR cal. Lastly, the car’s response to steering input, especially in an autocross movement or an emergency evasive maneuver seems different. The best way I can describe this situation is that steering is more “crisp”–for lack of a better word.
In short, I was impressed with Jim Mero’s C6 MagnaRide calibration, not only because of the improvements discussed above, but because his stuff is for “real world” driving and not specific to track use. Read More Testimonials ->
